In this podcast, journalist and broadcaster Clem Bastow talks
to writer and fashion researcher Mel Campbell about the Australian styles of
the 1970s. For the next year, Bastow is immersing herself in 1970s culture and
recording the process via a blog and podcast. In this episode their discussion
moves from the topics of fashion, body image, crafting, food, media,
technology, politics, as well as the minutiae of everyday life. They critically
evaluate not only the period of the 1970s but also the differences between then
and now, detailing the differences in how we learn to craft, listen to music
and the width of our underwear. This resource is potentially useful to the
researchers by bringing the history of Australian 1970s experience to life in a
truly intimate way. The main limitation of this resource is that it is a
current undertaking, so the comprehensiveness of the examination is not yet
discoverable, nonetheless we believe it has great potential.
