The text focuses on the major factors that influenced current textile conservation
practice. The authors use several case studies from the US, UK, Europe and Asia to illustrate the range of innovations that exist in modern textile conservation. Unlike many of the books previously published on the subject, this text focuses less on technical conservation techniques and more on the development of the conservator’s unique understanding of textiles and their historical contexts. This text will be useful to our researchers because it reflects the needs of the 21st century museum collection. This will give our researchers an understanding of the changing context and evolution in the way conservators think about objects, as well as technical developments such as standards for storage, handling, and exhibiting which are integral to effective conservation decision-making.
