Produced by the Design Museum London as part of a series looking at influential fashion by the decade, this book explores the different designs, trends and fashions that were prevalent in the 1970s through an even mix of photographs (colour, and black and white) and text. An introduction gives context to the themes explored and offers possible interpretation behind various fashions, however this discussion is brief and lacks depth. The book is organised chronologically, with a focus on UK and US fashions, however it touches on a wide variety of influences, such as popular culture, music, film, television, high fashion, politics and feminism. As such, it provides a useful overview of major contributors to fashion during this era, however this slim volume does not go into a much detail on each theme, but could be valuable as a starting point for further research. An index and short list of further reading are provided, however of most value are the photographs which include detailed information as to their origins, as well as serving to vividly illustrate the designs and ideas discussed.
